SMS Consent & Opt-In
Effective date: June 16, 2026
1. Overview
Untangle is an AI-powered legal technology platform used by Connecticut family-law attorneys and the clients they represent. This page describes how we obtain consent before sending text messages, what those messages contain, and how a recipient can opt out at any time.
Our SMS program is transactional only. We use it solely to remind an invited recipient to open a secure case-file invitation. We do not send marketing, promotional, or advertising text messages, and we do not sell or share mobile information with third parties for marketing.
2. How Consent Is Collected
Consent is obtained verbally by the recipient's own attorney before any text message is sent. The attorney, who has a direct relationship with the client, asks the client for permission to send text reminders and only then enters the client's mobile number into Untangle. Untangle records the date and time the number was added and the attorney who added it.
Untangle does not collect mobile numbers directly from recipients through a web form for this program. The attorney supplies the number after obtaining the recipient's verbal agreement using the script below.
Verbal consent script
“I'm setting you up on Untangle to securely upload your divorce documents. Can I text reminders with your secure link to [mobile number]? These are reminder texts only, no marketing — up to 4 over about a week, and they stop once you've started. Msg & data rates may apply, and you can reply STOP anytime to opt out. Is that okay?”
The recipient answers yes or no verbally. Only on an affirmative answer does the attorney enter the mobile number and trigger the invitation.
3. Message Frequency & Content
- We send up to 4 reminder messages per invitation over approximately 7 days if the invitation has not yet been accepted.
- Reminders stop automatically once the invitation is accepted, revoked, or expires.
- Each message identifies the recipient by name, names the attorney or firm, and includes a secure invitation link. No marketing content is included.
A representative message reads:
“Hi Jane, Attorney Smith at Smith Family Law set up your case file on Untangle. Open it here: https://untangle.us/invite/accept?token=abc123 Reply STOP to opt out. Msg & data rates may apply.”
4. Opting Out & Help
You can opt out at any time by replying STOP to any message. After you reply STOP, you will receive one confirmation message and no further texts from this program. To opt back in, ask the attorney who invited you to resend the invitation, or reply START.
For help, reply HELP or contact us at hello@untangle.us.
5. Message & Data Rates
Message and data rates may apply depending on your mobile carrier and plan. Untangle does not charge recipients for these messages.
6. Privacy
Mobile information collected for this SMS program is used only to deliver the transactional invitation reminders described above. We do not sell or share mobile numbers or consent with third parties for their marketing purposes. For more detail, see our Privacy Policy and the SMS Communications section of our Terms of Service.
